Susie pressed a trembling hand against her mouth, groaning as she forced her battered body up from the stone floor. The punch had caught her completely off guard, shattering the rigid control she usually held over the battlefield.
As she staggered to her feet, the burning sensation in her arm suddenly flared into a white-hot agony. "Aghh... damnit!" she hissed, clutching her forearm as a cold sweat broke out across her skin.
"What the hell is this sudden pain...?" she thought, her mind racing. Her eyes flicked across the floor toward the unconscious form of Bobo. "Wait... It started right after that fatso grabbed me..."
Her gaze snapped back to Kairo. The boy standing before her was entirely different from the one she had tossed around a moments ago. His eyes were heavy, hollow, and hauntingly sober, yet his face was locked in a mask of dark, violent agitation.
Flickering between confusion and rising irritation, Susie narrowed her eyes. "What's with that look...?"
Without breaking eye contact, Kairo reached up and gripped the hem of his dust-covered long-sleeve shirt, pulling it completely off and revealing the tight, high-collared, brown turtleneck singlet underneath. Susie flinched slightly, watching in silence as Kairo used his discarded shirt to tightly wrap and tie off the bleeding wound on his knee, cutting off the flow.
Finished, Kairo stood up and moved. He walked slowly toward the side of the chamber where the heavy tactical axe lay discarded on the stone floor. He gripped the handle, lifting it effortlessly, and began to pace a short distance away, positioning himself directly opposite her.
He raised the axe, extending his hand forward. His face was carved from stone, radiating an absolute, unyielding resolve.
"I don't care about whatever you have to say regarding this survival test," Kairo declared, his voice cutting through the quiet chamber like a blade. "I'm getting the map, and I'm walking out of this survival test with my friends. No matter what."
Susie kept one hand clamped tightly over her burning arm, her face tight with pain. She spoke in a low, gravelly tone through the lingering agony in her limbs.
"I see..." she murmured, her eyes locking onto his. "Well then... let's see whose resolve is stronger. Either way you look at it... only one of us is walking out of here alive."
Kairo lowered his center of gravity, shifting his weight forward as he prepared to burst into an explosive sprint with the axe gripped in his hand.
"That's your problem," Kairo fired back, his eyes narrowing. "I'll do things my way."
Susie slowly pulled her left hand away from her burning, throbbing right arm, letting out a sharp breath as she forced her fingers to shape into lethal, extended claws.
"I've dragged this fight out for way too long," she thought, a bead of cold sweat rolling down her cheek as the internal agony spiked. "Any minute now, my seikon flow is going to hit its limit..."
She gritted her teeth and willed the kinetic energy to activate. But the second the seikon energy began crawling down her arms, it hit her injured right limb. The pain flared through her veins. "AAAARGH! Damnit!" she shrieked, her voice cracking as she instinctively tried to glance down at the burning flesh.
Before her eyes could even track the movement, he was already there.
"When did he?!" she thought, her eyes widening in sheer shock as he closed the distance in a blinding burst of speed.
Kairo was already upon her, gripping the heavy tactical axe with both hands, "HAAAAH!"
Swinging it forward with lethal momentum.
Caught completely off guard, Susie threw her left arm up as a makeshift shield, desperately forcing her seikon flow to concentrate entirely on that single limb to block the blow.
CRASH!
The axe connected violently with her left arm. A blinding spike of emerald-green kinetic energy erupted from the impact point, sending a shockwave through the air as the heavy blade bounced harmlessly off her armored limb.
Forced onto her back foot, Susie scrambled backward, limping heavily as she tried to regain her footing. But Kairo didn't give her a single breath to recover. Pumping his legs, he charged again, bringing the axe down in a relentless, brutal overhead strike.
"RAAAAGH!" Kairo roared, the strain tearing at his throat.
She threw her left arm up to shield herself once more, forced into a humiliating one-armed defense. Frustration boiled in her chest... "Damn... I can't stay on the defensive like this! Not with one arm!"
Before she could pivot away, the hard edge of stone bit sharply into her shoulder blades. "Damn it!" Her back had slammed straight against one of the massive stone pillars.
Seizing the moment, Kairo leaped forward, swinging the axe with a third desperate, throat-ripping scream. "HAAAAH!"
Susie ducked low, letting the heavy blade carve a deep chunk out of the stone pillar beside her head. As she dodged, her eyes caught an opening at his exposed lower torso, and a cold smirk touched her lips. She coiled her left arm, ready to drive her sharp steel claws straight through his ribs.
Got you!
In a slow-motion blur, right as she moved to strike, Kairo’s eyes suddenly flicked downward. He had anticipated it all along.
Before her claws could sink into his side, Kairo’s feet violently left the ground. His knee plunged with devastating force directly into her midsection, knocking the wind completely out of her lungs. At the same time, the back of her head slammed hard against the stone pillar from the recoil.
CRACK.
"AAAAAAH!" Susie screamed, a high-pitched shriek of pure, agonizing pain tearing from her throat as her eyes rolled back.
Kairo hit the ground, stumbling backward three heavy steps as he gasped for air, his body trembling from the exertion.
She collapsed forward, hitting her knees on the stone floor. Her breathing came in ragged, hyperventilating gasps, her face pale and drenched in sweat as hopelessness washed over her. Yet, through the blinding haze of pain, her eyes pierced upward through her hair, locking onto Kairo with a final, undying blaze of pure, unbridled rage.
Trembling violently, Susie used her trembling left hand to push herself up from the stone floor. Every muscle in her core shrieked in protest. "It looks like I don't have any choice..." she thought, gritting her teeth against the agony. "I'll have to use every last drop of energy I have left."
She knew the physical toll and aftermath effects would be severe, but she didn't care. Her eyes burned with murderous intent as she glared straight at Kairo. "It doesn't matter... as long as I rip that smug face apart."
Realizing her right arm was completely useless, she channeled her remaining focus entirely into her left side.
FWOOSH.
The violent surge of seikon energy erupted through her veins. Stiff, coarse fur rapidly sprouted across her skin, her eyes turned a feral, glowing green, and sharp whiskers bristled from her cheeks as she took on the terrifying, monstrous appearance of a bloodthirsty tiger. The entire atmosphere around her distorted, heavy with the suffocating pressure of a predator ready to pounce.
Across the room, Kairo watched her terrifying transformation with a blank, unreadable expression, standing completely odd and unshaken.
Without breaking stride, Kairo twisted his body and bolted forward. Seeing that he wasn't going to give her a single second to breathe, Susie didn't wait. With an explosive spring off her good leg, she crossed the distance in a fraction of a second. Airborne and hurtling directly toward him, she thrust her hand out with her razor-sharp claws extended, her jaws unhinged in a feral snarl.
She hurtled straight toward him through the air, her claws outstretched to rake across his face, her jaws parted wide in a feral snarl. “RAAARGH!”
Mid-flight, as she lunged straight for him, Kairo dropped his weight entirely. He hit the stone floor, sliding rapidly underneath her airborne charge like a diving shadow as she soared right over him.
Missing her mark, Susie hit the ground, twisted her body with terrifying speed, and spun back toward him before the boy could even plant his feet to stand.
Too slow!
Lunging forward with a desperate limp, she drove her left arm straight out.
SCHLACK.
Her razor-sharp steel claws buried deep into Kairo’s chest.

"AAAAAAAAAAH!" he screamed.
A blood-curdling shriek of pure agony ripped from Kairo’s throat as the kinetic force of her charge lifted him completely off the ground. She slammed him violently backward, flying straight across the chamber until his spine smashed hard into the lower base of the stone pillar.
CRACK-BOOM!
"AAAAAAARGH!" Kairo screamed as the impact shattered the stone, the shockwave rippling through the pillar as her claws dug even deeper into his flesh.
Susie’s face twisted into an ugly mask of manic triumph. Ripping her bloody hand free from his chest as a warm spray of crimson followed, she raised her arm high to deliver the killing blow.
"Die!"
Before her claws could descend, Kairo’s hand shot upward in desperation, grabbing the tactical axe he had dropped hanging on the pillar. He jammed the wooden handle directly between them as a shield.
CLANG! Her lethal claws crashed violently against the wooden shaft of the axe, sending sparks flying.
Susie immediately reared back to strike again, but Kairo pivoted the axe, using the handle to block her a second time. Frustrated by the barrier, she abandoned the direct stab, whipping her left arm sideways in a vicious, clawed backhand swipe meant to tear around the weapon.
Kairo violently ducked his head. Her razor-sharp claws missed his skull by a hair's breadth, slamming instead directly into the stone pillar with a deafening screech. Shards of broken rock erupted into the air as the pillar fractured even deeper under the stress.
Before Susie could retract her arm or regain her footing, Kairo made his move. Gripping the heavy weapon with both hands, he swung the back of the axe head upward like a brutal baseball bat, catching her squarely under the chin.
WHAM!
The brutal upward impact blasted her backward, sending her flying backward through the air. She skidded hard across the stone floor, scrambling desperately to regain her balance.
............
Her eyes burned with unadulterated, primal rage. Stripped of all reason, she looked less like a human and more like a wild, feral beast completely out of control, her breath coming in ragged, savage pants.
Kairo stood silently opposite her, watching the frantic, raging display. After a heavy beat of silence, the breaking point finally reached him. The exhaustion, the blood, the sheer frustration boiled over into a sharp, exhausted snap.
"Damnit..." he muttered, his voice trembling with disbelief. "For goodness's sake..."
He stared right into her wild eyes, his tone dropping flat and dead serious. "Have you even taken a single moment to look at yourself?"
She snarled, baring her teeth, preparing to lunge.
"You look horrible at this point," Kairo added quietly.
Stung by the words, she forced herself forward, taking a heavy, aggressive step and suddenly, her entire body locked up.
A heavy, ice-cold numbness flooded her limbs. Her eyes widened, her voice catching in her throat as a weak, strangled gasp escaped her. "What... is going on...?"
Kairo’s eyes slowly dropped down to her injured right arm. "Just as I thought..."
Slowly, fighting the heaviness in her neck, she forced her head down to look at her right arm. Her eyes blew wide in utter horror.
The burning right arm had turned a deep, bruised purple. Worse still, the dark discoloration was creeping rapidly upward, spreading across her shoulder and slithering like venom toward her neck.
"What... what is this?!" she choked out, panic cracking her voice. "Poison?! But how?!"
Her eyes suddenly snapped open as a violent flash of memory struck her. She saw the exact moment back on the floor the moment the fat boy, Bobo had grabbed her arm. before she knocked him out.
"Tha-that... little... bastard..." she hissed, her face contorting with fury as she snapped her gaze back to Kairo.
"YOU!... YOU AND YOUR FRIEND DID THIS, DIDN'T YOU?!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, pure horror and malice tearing through her voice. "YOU PLANNED THIS FROM THE START!"
"What are you talking about?" he fired back, holding his bleeding chest. "You were so damn driven by winning at all costs, you couldn't even notice your own vulnerable moment."
Completely losing her mind to agitation and terror, she threw her head back and let out an ear-piercing, unhinged shriek of rage. "AAARRRGH!"
Ignoring the agony, she forced her failing right arm to move, digging her fingers into her own flesh.
"What the hell...?" Kairo muttered, taking a startled step back. "Your goanna make it worse!"
Mid-scream, her body dropped low as she channeled every remaining drop of her seikon flow downward. Pumping her core energy, a harsh, brilliant flash of light green cascaded down from her heart, rushing straight into both of her legs.
A vortex of dust whipped up around her feet, the acceleration spinning faster and faster as the ground trembled.
"I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU!" She roared, her voice echoing off the cavern walls screaming upward into a roaring gale. She shrieked, gathering every ounce of her remaining kinetic energy into one final, desperate, suicidal seikon strike.
Kairo’s eyes blew wide in sheer terror.
"What the... she's gone crazy." Realizing what was coming, he threw himself sideways to dive out of her line of sight.
The instant his foot lifted to run, she exploded forward.
Her feet left the ground, and the swirling dust vanished in a vacuum pop of pure speed. The kinetic backdraft of her launch was so devastatingly massive that the stone pillar directly behind Kairo instantly shattered into a million pieces.
Kairo dove hard against the ground as she soared directly over him like a human missile.
She slammed through the first pillar, and with unstoppable momentum, smashed straight into a second structural column behind it.
CRAAASH-BOOOM!
The sheer force of the impact shook the entire underground chamber to its core. A deep, terrifying groan echoed through the stone walls as the ceiling fractured, and a cascade of heavy, loose rocks began raining down from above.
...........
Thick, choking clouds of gray dust billowed through the ruined chamber as Susie slowly pushed herself up from the wreckage of the shattered pillars. Her hand went instinctively to her head, a deep, guttural growl rumbling from the back of her throat "GRRRR... UGGH!" as the agonizing throbbing of the impact hammered against her skull.
Before she could fully steady herself, heavy, rushing footsteps slammed against the stone directly behind her.
Susie whipped her head around and her eyes widened in utter disbelief.
Kairo leapt into the air, his body twisted violently in mid-air in one fluid, blinding spin. Before she could react or raise a single defense, his heel was already driving straight at her face like a falling hammer.
CRACK.
The spinning kick connected with devastating precision. Susie's eyes rolled back, her body collapsing instantly into the dust and broken stones as dead silence rushed back into the fractured room.
Kairo stepped back, his legs trembling. But the sudden movement triggered a searing agony across his torso. "Agh... ughh!" he gasped, clutching his bleeding chest as his knees buckled and he crashed down onto the stone floor.
Breathing heavily, he slowly turned his head toward the corner where Bobo lay. "Thank you..." he whispered softly, his voice trembling.
Grit and sheer willpower dragged him back up. Through the agonizing pain, he forced himself back onto his feet. He staggered across the trembling, debris-strewn chamber toward where Bobo lay motionless. Grasping his unconscious friend by the shoulders, Kairo dragged Bobo’s heavy body across the floor to the relative safety of the center of the room, dropping heavily to his knees right beside his head.
He reached out, pressing two trembling fingers against Bobo's neck to check his pulse, his eyes instantly blew wide in sheer, unreadable shock.
Before he could process what he felt, a heavy metallic clinking echoed through the room.
CLANG.
A thick, industrial metal chain suddenly materialized out of thin air, whipping around Kairo's arm and binding it tight.
"Huh?!" he gasped, looking down in bewilderment.
Instinctively, he reached out with his free hand to grab and rip the chain away. But before his fingers could touch the metal
ZAAAAP!
A violent, high-voltage electrical current surged straight out of the chains, flooding into his nervous system.
"AAAAAAARGH! URRRGH!" Kairo shrieked, the searing current blasting through his veins and paralyzing his muscles as he collapsed hard onto the stone.
"Hehehehe..."
From the shadows, a childish, high-pitched chuckle cut through the hum of the electricity.
A teenage boy stepped out through the dust. He wore a heavy, clanking metal helmet and carried a massive, whirring mechanical backpack strapped securely to his back, giggling like a kid in a playground. Right behind him, a fresh wave of Harumachi reinforcements poured out into the chamber.
The teenage boy walked casually toward Kairo, whose eyes were heavy and slowly fluttering shut as his body lay completely paralyzed and numbed by the voltage. "Hah! To think he managed to cause all this..."
His eyes swept across the ruined room, eventually landing on Susie’s unconscious, battered form sprawled near the far wall. The boy’s smile dropped into a sneer, and he let out a sharp hiss of disgust. "How useless... letting a couple of weaklings get the better of you."
Without looking away, the boy casually tapped a button on a handheld remote, sending another vicious jolt of electricity rippling through the chains to keep the downed Kairo completely incapacitated.
Snapping his head toward the line of armed reinforcements behind him, the boy sneered with arrogant dismissal. "What are you idiots staring at? Do your jobs!"
The guards immediately snapped to attention, rushing forward to hoist Kairo and Bobo off the stone floor, dragging their limp bodies away as they retreated into the depths of the facility, with the tech-bound boy trailing leisurely behind them.
