The first thing he remembered...
...was fire.
Not the warmth of a hearth.
Not the flames of a forge.
An entire mountain...
...burning beneath a crimson sky.
Steel rang endlessly.
Men screamed.
Someone shouted—
"Protect the seal!"
Another voice...
One he had not heard in decades.
"Run!"
—-----------------------—–——-----------------------–
Snow fell without sound.
The Silent Blade walked alone.
No destination.
No companion.
Only footprints stretching endlessly across the white earth.
For twenty years...
He had walked this road.
The same mountains.
The same forests.
The same silence.
It was a promise.
One he had never broken.
---
There had once been seven roads.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
Each leading somewhere no map could find.
Each ending before an ancient gate.
Each gate...
Held shut by a seal.
One for every Calamity.
Long ago...
He visited all seven.
Every year.
Every season.
Every snowfall.
Without fail.
Until...
Three weeks ago.
His steps slowed.
"...Too late."
The words escaped his lips once more.
Not because of the boy.
Not because of the burning village.
Because...
One of the seven gates had already opened.
---
He arrived before a cliff hidden beneath frozen waterfalls.
There was no temple.
No shrine.
Only an enormous stone gate carved directly into the mountain.
Thousands of strange symbols covered its surface.
Most had faded with time.
A massive crack split the center.
The gate stood open...
Just enough for darkness to breathe.
The Silent Blade quietly knelt before it.
He closed his eyes.
"I failed."
For the first time in many years...
His voice carried regret.
A cold wind emerged from within the gate.
It did not feel like winter.
It felt...
Alive.
---
Far away...
Deep beneath the Crimson Fortress...
The organization's leader stood before an ancient mural.
Seven towering figures watched over kneeling humans.
Some held swords.
Others held staffs.
One had no weapon at all.
"They called you monsters."
The leader smiled.
"...Cowards always fear their rulers."
He placed his hand upon the mural.
"The age of men has lasted long enough."
Behind him...
Dozens of Crimson officers knelt.
"The First Seal has fallen."
"The remaining six weaken each passing year."
He turned to face them.
"Our ancestors served those whom history now insults."
"They brought order."
"They ended war."
"They gave purpose to the weak."
One officer hesitated.
"But... the stories say they nearly destroyed Japan."
The leader laughed softly.
"The victors write history."
His smile faded.
"And history belongs to the Silent Blade."
---
He descended a staircase.
Deeper.
And deeper still.
Until he reached a chamber that should not exist.
The air itself felt heavy.
In the center...
A single fragment of black crystal floated above an altar.
Thin cracks spread across its surface.
A whisper echoed through the room.
"...Another..."
The Crimson leader slowly knelt.
"My Lord."
The whisper grew louder.
"...Find..."
"...the remaining seals."
"I have already begun."
"...And..."
"...the Jailer?"
The leader lowered his head.
"He walks once more."
Silence.
Then...
Laughter.
Not joyful.
Ancient.
Heavy.
The chamber shook.
"...Good."
"...Bring him to me."
The crystal cracked again.
One small fragment fell to the floor.
---
Elsewhere...
The Silent Blade stood before the broken gate.
He reached toward the crack.
His fingertips brushed the ancient stone.
Instantly—
A vision.
Fire.
Blood.
Seven impossible figures standing beneath a crimson moon.
Thousands of warriors charging.
Then...
One man.
Young.
His face untouched by age.
Katana drawn.
Standing alone.
Before the Seven.
The vision shattered.
The Silent Blade slowly withdrew his hand.
"...Not again."
He turned away from the gate.
If one seal had broken...
The others would soon follow.
For the first time in twenty years...
His journey changed.
No longer a pilgrimage.
A hunt.
---
Far beyond the gate...
In a realm where no human sun had ever risen...
Something opened its eyes.
Golden.
Ancient.
Neither human...
Nor god.
A faint smile crossed its face.
"So..."
A voice echoed across an endless sea of white flowers.
"The Jailer still lives."
The creature stood.
Chains wrapped around its body like roots.
One chain...
Snapped.
It looked toward a sky that did not belong to Earth.
"The world remembers me..."
"...as a Calamity."
It laughed softly.
"...How ungrateful."
With a single step...
The realm trembled.
