Evening had come. I headed toward Sakura's group and told her the same theories and the shoe matter. She trusted me, so she listened and agreed.
"Did your team get the game coin transfer feature?"
"Five of us got it, thanks to your information. Thank you."
"I want to do something about Haru. Lend me five hundred game coins."
"No need to call it a loan." She sent the money.
I thanked her and embraced her gently. She returned it. I left quickly. Since the area was shrinking, I could move between groups faster.
The masked figure and Kiriyama began the first steps of their plan. They were thinking of carrying out assassinations, and Kiriyama was planning to blow up his own group's tent at a moment when around ten people would be gathered. Haru agreed to support the assassinations.
"Forty-seven players remaining."
I headed quickly toward Akari's group. I wanted to speak with her alone again. We moved to another riverbank.
"These are members of your cult, aren't they, Akari?"
She was surprised. "How do you know that?"
"I learned about it a while ago. Forget it." I scratched my hair. "If you ask them, they'd probably eliminate themselves from the game, right? Since there's no death."
"Are you stupid? You think I'd eliminate them just because you asked?"
"You're right. But I really do have a good plan. I'll keep you alive too. But some people need to be eliminated. You'll get the reward too."
"Why should I trust you?"
"Because it'll be in your interest too. I'll protect you. You just need to give the order at the right time for them to press their own buttons."
"Tell me your plan."
"You have the walkie-talkies, don't you?"
I explained part of the plan to Akari.
"I see. So you don't want violence."
I knelt before her and clung to her legs, pleading.
"Akari, please! It's really important. Help me."
"I promise—we'll face off later. Maybe we'll even make peace completely?"
"Shut up! Why are you begging..."
"I'll repay the debt with rewards later. I promise. I just need one walkie-talkie, and you just need to give them the order at the right time. And the other things... please!"
"Fine, Rei. Get up already."
"Thank you!"
I stood up and hugged Akari tightly. After a moment, she gently pushed me away.
She handed me one of the walkie-talkies shortly after. I told her I would contact her through it. I asked her to place random mines near the area where I would be planting mine and to detonate them when the first mine exploded, then tell her group members to eliminate themselves. Akari agreed. I began planting mines along the outer edges of the area.
I checked Haru's location. He wasn't with Kiriyama.
Thirty minutes later, I went to the twins' group. I told them to send as many men with clubs as possible to our location when they saw Kiriyama's and my own location at the same time an hour later, and to do it fast.
Then I hid my phone halfway down the road again and headed silently toward Kiriyama's camp with all my strength.
I found Tsubasa. Even without my mask on, I made the mask signal to remind him it was me. When he saw my face, he was startled for a moment, but I made eye contact and he understood. He came to the riverbank on the excuse of needing the bathroom.
"You haven't had dinner yet, have you? From what I've seen, Kiriyama eats around this time."
"Ah, yes..."
My plan was starting. I told Tsubasa to tell the other guy too—to secretly place the blueberries inside the food storage, to squeeze their juice into the meals. It would be enough to make them sick.
"But—"
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"It's fine. You already know my face. We're a team now. Run toward the center instead of the riverbank and wait for me there. Understood?"
"O-okay."
Now I need to find Haru and transfer the blueberry scent onto him.
I went back halfway, retrieved my phone from where I had hidden it, and checked Haru's location. He wasn't with Kiriyama. I saw he wasn't far.
"Two players eliminated. Forty-five remaining!"
A random explosion was heard somewhere.
A trap?
"Five players eliminated. Forty remaining!"
I squeezed the blueberry juice from my pocket onto my shirt. I started smelling of blueberries.
I quickly ran to Haru and, using the explosion as an excuse, told him I was scared. Acting stressed, I hugged Haru. I kept transferring the blueberry scent onto him by holding him tightly.
"A-are you okay, senpai? You're clingy today."
I suddenly pulled back, acting embarrassed.
"S-sorry."
"Where are you going, senpai?"
"Hmm... I don't know. I'll set up camp somewhere."
"Okay. I'll wander around a bit."
"Alright. Take care."
"See you, senpai."
"See you."
At that moment, Kiriyama's teammates noticed the blueberries. They started spitting out their food as their stomachs began to ache.
"WHO THE HELL PUT THESE IN HERE?"
Tsubasa and Kazuya secretly started running toward the center area.
I returned to detonating the outer mines.
Haru, masked, eventually met up with Kiriyama. He asked what had happened, surprised. Then Rei's blueberry scent came to his mind.
Kiriyama approached Haru immediately.
"Someone put blueberries in the food!"
An hour had passed. The twins and the Cleaners checked the locations on their phones. They saw that Kiriyama and Haru were together and that Rei was nearby. They began sending their teams toward the area.
Kiriyama noticed the blueberry scent on the masked figure.
"What's that smell? Could it be you...?"
"Huh?!"
"No, no! It transferred from Rei!"
"What Rei? Who the hell is Rei?!"
"GUYS, CATCH HIM!"
The group members rushed at Haru. Haru turned and ran. After a short chase, they ran into the squad sent by the twins on the road, and Haru was trapped in the middle.
"W-what the hell is going on?!"
"Catch him!"
Haru fought with the members for a while. Attacks were coming from both sides at once. Haru dodged and countered with kicks and punches. He took the phone of someone he knocked down, put some distance between them, and pressed the button.
"One player eliminated!"
"Ahhh!"
Kiriyama joined the fight and threw himself at Haru to catch him. When he landed on him, Haru's mask fell to the ground, revealing his face.
"You bastard!"
Kiriyama punched him in the face, and the group members began grabbing his arms. The squad arriving from behind tried to help restrain Haru.
Kiriyama took Haru's phone and immediately pressed the button. But because of the protection, Kiriyama was eliminated.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!"
"Hah! You idiot!"
Haru instantly activated the red zone on top of them using his phone, kicking away the members beside him. The members behind didn't let him escape and immediately pressed the button on his phone again. Haru was eliminated.
"DAMN IT!"
Haru's mask came off, and his dark side began to emerge.
"I AM THE BEST! HOW CAN THIS BE?!"
He began to realize that Rei was behind everything, and Rei's face came to his mind.
"REI! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL DESTROY YOU, YOU BASTARD! DO YOU HEAR ME? AHAHAHAHA! AGGHHHAHAHA!"
The people around were stunned by Haru's state, but they wasted no time and ran to escape the red zone.
When I heard the sound, I threw a stone at one of the outer mines, detonating it, and began running toward the center.
Thanks to the domino effect, the outer mines began exploding in sequence, and everyone started running toward the center of the island.
I ran toward the center with all my strength and quickly climbed the tree in the middle.
Tsubasa spotted me.
"Rei! What are you doing?!"
People began gathering toward the center. I placed the mine at the tip of the tree and pulled the grenade from my bag, showing it to everyone. Everyone was looking at me.
Sakura reacted.
"R-Rei! What are you doing?!"
Akari and her group were nowhere to be seen.
I told everyone in the center to eliminate themselves using their phones. Otherwise, I would throw the mine and the grenade down. I also said I had hidden mines all over the island and could blow up everywhere.
"Screw you!"
"You don't believe me?"
"He's just trying to intimidate us!"
"No one move, or I'll throw the bomb!"
Everyone froze.
"You don't believe me? Then let me show you."
I spoke into the walkie-talkie and told Akari to do it. Akari used the other walkie-talkies to tell the groups she had evenly split to detonate the mines they had randomly placed.
A few mines exploded around the area, and people began to panic.
In reality, the island was not covered in mines. I was just creating that perception with a few random mines.
Then I told Akari through the walkie-talkie to have everyone eliminate themselves. She had convinced the members beforehand, promising payment and promotions after the game. The group members who listened to her pressed their own phone buttons.
"Fifteen players eliminated. Twenty-five remaining!"
"Ahh, fifteen people gone already... what more could happen?"
"Don't try to use the red zone! Or we all die! Do you hear me? Your protections won't help you either."
"I'm giving you ten seconds!"
I readied the mine and the bomb.
Those who were too fragile from the stress began eliminating themselves.
"Five players eliminated. Twenty remaining!"
"Sakura, Tsubasa, Kazuya! I'll keep you to the side. The twins and the Cleaners too! If you eliminate others, I'll make sure you place in the top ten!"
Hearing those words, the Cleaners began trying to eliminate the people around them, and chaos erupted as everyone fought to stay in the top ten. Those who didn't want to get beaten gave up and eliminated themselves.
"Three players eliminated. Seventeen remaining!"
The chaos continued until there were ten players left. Even though ten remained, the game hadn't ended. Everyone looked at each other.
Akari came up from behind, secretly took a phone from one of the Cleaners' bags, and pressed the button.
"One player eliminated. Ten remaining!"
"NO!"
The game was over!
